Targretin Usage: Bexarotene is used to treat a certain type of cancer affecting skin, certain types of blood cells (lymphocytes), and lymph nodes (cutaneous T-cell lymphoma or CTCL).
How to use Targretin: Take this pill by mouth, usually once daily with meal; or take as directed by your healthcare professional. the dosage is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. this may take up to some months of continued use to see response to treatment. your dosage may need to be adjusted by you're physician during this time.
Targretin side effects: Headache, rash, nausea, vomiting, dry skin, diarrhea, or trouble sleeping may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, notify your physician. Tell youre doctor immediately if any about these serious side effects occur: unusual fatigue, stomach pain, swelling of hands or feet, muscle pain/stiffness/cramps, unusually slow heartbeat. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: yellowing eyes and skin, dark urine, vision changes, unusual weight loss. it drug can lower body's ability to fight an infection. Notify your pharmacist promptly if you develop any signs of an infection such as fever, chills, or persistent sore throat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or healthcare professional.
Targretin Precautions: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: heart disease, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, pancreatitis, diabetes, kidney problems, liver problems, thyroid problems (e.g., hypothyroidism), cataracts, allergies. it medication may make you more sensitive to sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, use sunscreen, & wear protective clothing when outdoors. Because this drug can lower you're body's ability to fight an infection, don't touch your eyes or the inside about your nose without 1st washing your hands. don't have immunizations/vaccinations without consent of your doctor & avoid contact with people who have recently received oral polio vaccine. this tablet must not be used during pregnancy. If you become pregnant or think you may be pregnant, inform your doctor immediately. 2 effective forms of birth control must be used for 1 month before starting this drug, during use about it drug, and for 1 month after stopping it tablet. this is not known if this drug passes into breast milk. Due to potential risk to the infant, breast-feeding while using this drug isnt recommended. Consult your healthcare professional before breast- feeding. it is recommended men use condoms during sexual activity while on this medication and for 1 month after last dose.
Targretin drug interactions: this medication is not recommended for use with gemfibrozil. If you are taking gemfibrozil, you're treatment may be changed to different cholesterol/lipid-lowering medication. Ask your pharmacist or doctor for more next details. Tell your doctor of every prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially of: macrolide antibiotics (e.g., clarithromycin, erythromycin), cimetidine, azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), nefazodone, phenytoin, phenobarbital, rifampin. do not eat grapefruit or drink grapefruit juice unless your doctor instructs you otherwise. this medication can affect the results of certain lab tests. Make sure laboratory personnel and some your healthcare professionals know you use this drug. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or doctor approval.
Targretin Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Targretin special notes: don't share this tablet with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., pregnancy tests, liver and thyroid tests, cholesterol/triglycerides) will be performed to monitor your progress.
If you missed Targretin dose: If you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If this is near the clock of the following dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Targretin Storage: Store at room temperature between 36 and 86 degrees F (2 to 30 degrees C) away from light & moisture.
