    Rifampin - injection

    Rifadin Iv Usage: this medication is used in treatment of tuberculosis or other infections when oral form cannot be taken. Use about only rifampin & pyrazinamide as two-drug, two-month therapy to treat tuberculosis (specifically 'latent' TB infection) is no longer recommended. Infrequently, serious (sometimes fatal) liver disease has occurred with use of these two medications alone. some other effective alternative treatments can be used to treat latent tuberculosis (e.g., isoniazid since 9 months). Use of rifampin and pyrazinamide as part about a multi-drug (3 or more drugs) treatment plan since tuberculosis is still acceptable. Consult you're physician or pharmacist for more details.

    How to use Rifadin Iv: this med is given by injection into vein usually once or 2 times day. Avoid injecting intramuscularly or subcutaneously. Inject into a vein only. this medication must be used as prescribed. do not skip doses or stop using this with out you're doctor's approval. Stopping therapy too soon may result in ineffective treatment. Full course of therapy may take several months or longer to complete.

    Rifadin Iv side effects: Sore mouth, drowsiness, dizziness or flushing may occur 1'st several days as you're body adjusts to the medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your physician. Tell your healthcare professional immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: weakness, unusual bruising or bleeding, flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, headache, muscle ache), nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, dark urine, yellowing about eyes or skin, pale stools, numbness or tingling about the hands or feet, changes in vision, confusion, memory trouble, sore throat. it drug may cause urine, saliva, tears, stools & sweat to turn red-orange in color. do not be alarmed. this will disappear when the med is stopped. Notify your doctor if the injection site becomes swollen or irritated. another injection site may be necessary. in the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to it drug, seek immeditial medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact youre pharmacist or healthcare professional.

    Rifadin Iv Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have: liver disease, blood disorders, history of alcohol use, any allergies. Alcohol can reduce effectiveness of this drug & increase side effects. Limit alcohol consumption while taking it drug. Use caution operating machinery or participating at activities requiring alertness if this pill makes you feel drowsy or dizzy. Soft contact lenses may be permanently discolored by this medication. this drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy or while breast-feeding. Discuss risks and benefits with your physician.

    Rifadin Iv drug interactions: this medication is not recommended since use with: delavirdine. Ask youre pharmacist or pharmacist for more details. Inform youre pharmacist about all the medicines you may use (both prescription & nonprescription), especially of: warfarin, oral medicines for diabetes, azole antifungals (e.g., itraconazole, ketoconazole), theophylline, halothane, verapamil, certain protease inhibitors (e.g., nelfinavir), live vaccines, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), disopyramide, beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol), isoniazid, digitoxin, quinidine, mexiletine, phenytoin, cyclosporine, zidovudine. Rifampin can decrease effectiveness about oral contraceptives. Discuss the use of other birth control methods with your pharmacist. Also report tablets which cause drowsiness such as sedatives, tranquilizers, psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure or anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers and certain antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine). do not start or stop any medicine without physician or physician approval.

    Rifadin Iv Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include swelling of face or around eyes, itching over the entire body, orange or red discoloration of skin or eyes, nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, and loss of consciousness.

    Rifadin Iv special notes: Laboratory tests will be done frequently to monitor effectiveness of it medication & to prevent side effects.

    If you missed Rifadin Iv dose: Try to use each dose in the scheduled clock. If you miss dose, use this as soon as remembered; do not use it if It's near time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume you're usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Rifadin Iv Storage: undiluted vials of this medication may be stored at room temperature as directed. If diluted at 10 ml, use within 24 hours. If diluted at 100 ml or 500 ml use within 4 hours. money the expiration date on label & properly discard of any unused med after that date.
