    Guaifenesin with dextromethorphan - oral

    (gweye-fen-eh-sin with dex-trow-meth-or-fan)

    common brand names: Benylin, Cheracol D, Naldecon DX, Robitussin-DM

    Tuss DM Usage: Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen mucus. Dextromethorphan is a cough suppressant. this combination pill is used to treat a cough associated with common cold, allergies and other respiratory illnesses.

    How to use Tuss DM: Take this medication as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. do not increase your dose or take this more many times than directed. Capsules & long-acting tablets must be swallowed whole with a full glass about water. do not crush or chew them. long action will be destroyed & chance of side effects will be increased.

    Tuss DM side effects: Headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting may occur 1-st several days as youre body adjusts to medication. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform you're pharmacist. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these effects while taking it drug: skin rash, trouble breathing. Use caution driving or operating machinery if this med makes you feel dizzy. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

    Tuss DM Precautions: Tell your healthcare professional your medical history, especially of: lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), any allergies. this medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with some your doctor. since small amounts of it drug are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Tuss DM drug interactions: Tell you're physician of any over-the-counter or prescription drug you may take including: MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

    Tuss DM Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact you're local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, slowed breathing, & seizures.

    Tuss DM special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this drug. this will help to break up mucus and clear congestion.

    If you missed Tuss DM dose: If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if It's near time since the following dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume some your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Tuss DM Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in bathroom.
