Diltiazem XR Usage: Diltiazem is calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction & in controlling the electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, diltiazem relaxes and widens blood vessels and can normalize heartbeats. Diltiazem is used to treat chest pain (angina) or HBP.

Diltiazem XR canbe used also for: this drug may also be used to treat irregular heartbeats.

How to use Diltiazem XR: capsule should be taken on an empty stomach one time daily in morning. Swallow whole. don't open, chew or crush the capsule. do not stop taking this drug suddenly without your doctor's permission. your dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Diltiazem XR side effects: it med may cause dizziness & lightheadedness especially during first few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down for while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust & minimize dizziness. You may also experience bloating, heartburn, muscle cramps, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, sore throat, constipation or diarrhea. Inform your physician if they become bothersome. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling about hands or feet, an irregular heartbeat. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or physician.

Diltiazem XR Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, kidney problems, liver problems, allergies (especially drug allergies). Avoid alcohol while taking this medication. this med has not been extensively studied in pregnant or nursing women. Be sure to tell your pharmacist if you pregnant or breast-feeding.

Diltiazem XR drug interactions: Tell your physician of all prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: cyclosporine, flecainide, lithium, beta-blockers (e.g., atenolol, propranolol), intravenous (IV) calcium, timolol ophthalmic, digoxin, disopyramide, high blood pressure med, benzodiazepines (e.g., midazolam, triazolam), buspirone, lovastatin, quinidine, carbamazepine, rifampin, cimetidine, St John's wort. Avoid any drugs that increase some your heart rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine & phenylpropanolamine are examples). These tablets are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. don't start or stop any medicine with-out healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.

Diltiazem XR Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, weakness, slowed or irregular heartbeat, nausea, drowsiness, confusion, and slurred speech.
