Diltiazem XR Usage: Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved in blood vessel contraction & in controlling electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, diltiazem relaxes and widens blood vessels & can normalize heartbeats. Diltiazem is used to treat chest pain (angina) or hypertension.

Diltiazem XR can be used also for: this medication may also be used to treat irregular heartbeats.

How to use Diltiazem XR: capsules may be taken with out regard to meals once daily in the morning. Swallow whole. don't open, chew or crush capsule. don't stop taking it drug suddenly with out your doctor's permission. youre dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Diltiazem XR side effects: this drug may cause dizziness & lightheadedness especially during the 1st few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down since while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust and minimize dizziness. You may also experience bloating, heartburn, muscle cramps, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, sore throat, constipation, or diarrhea. Inform you're pharmacist if they become bothersome. Notify your pharmacist if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of the hands or feet, an irregular heartbeat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact you're physician or pharmacist.

Diltiazem XR Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially: heart disease, liver disease, lung disease, any allergies. Limit intake of alcohol while taking this med. it medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare professional. it medication is excreted at to breast milk. If they're is no alternative to using it drug you should discontinue breast-feeding. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.

Diltiazem XR drug interactions: Tell your healthcare professional of every prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: cyclosporine, flecainide, beta-blockers (including eye drops), intravenous (IV) calcium, digoxin, lithium, disopyramide, high blood pressure drug, benzodiazepines (e.g., midazolam, triazolam), buspirone, lovastatin, quinidine, rifampin, carbamazepine, cimetidine, St John's wort. Avoid any drugs that increase your heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine & phenylpropanolamine are examples). These pills are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. do not start or stop any medicine with out doctor or pharmacist approval.

Diltiazem XR Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include dizziness, weakness, slowed or irregular heartbeat, nausea, drowsiness, confusion, & slurred speech.

Diltiazem XR special notes: don't share it product with others.

If you missed Diltiazem XR dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost clock for the following dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

Diltiazem XR Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
