Docusate Calcium Usage: this medication helps fluids to mix with stool to keep them from becoming hard or dry. this is used to treat constipation.
How to use Docusate Calcium: Swallow capsules and pills whole with full glass of water or juice. the liquid & syrup forms must be given in 6 to 8 ounces of milk or juice to prevent throat irritation. Relief is usually obtained at 1 to 3 days after 1st dose.
Docusate Calcium side effects: it med may cause stomach ache, cramping or irritated throat (liquid & syrup forms). If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your physician. Notify your pharmacist if you experience: skin rash, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements. Frequent use about laxatives can cause dehydration & loss of essential nutrients. Symptoms include muscle cramps, muscle weakness or dizziness. Maintain an adequate fluid intake while using this medication. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Docusate Calcium Precautions: do not take aspirin (unless prescribed by some your doctor) or mineral oil while taking stool softeners. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, do not take over-the-counter stool softeners (or any other nonprescription medication) with out obtaining your doctor's advice.
Docusate Calcium drug interactions: this drug is not recommended since use with mineral oil. Ask your pharmacist or pharmacist for more details. Tell your physician of every prescription & nonprescription drug you may use, especially aspirin.
Docusate Calcium Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Docusate Calcium special notes: Laxatives should only be used temporarily until normal bowel habits return. Prolonged use can lead to laxative dependence. To prevent constipation: drink 4 to 6 glasses of water daily, include bulk or roughage in your diet, and exercise regularly.
If you missed Docusate Calcium dose: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if this is almost time since the following dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Docusate Calcium Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
