Diltiazem HCL Usage: Diltiazem is a calcium channel blocker. Calcium is involved at blood vessel contraction & in controlling the electrical impulses within the heart. By blocking calcium, diltiazem relaxes & widens blood vessels and can normalize heartbeats. Diltiazem is used to treat chest pain (angina) or HBP.

Diltiazem HCL can be used also since: it drug may also be used to treat irregular heartbeats.

How to use Diltiazem HCL: capsules may be taken with-out regard to meals one time daily in morning. Swallow whole. do not open, chew or crush capsule. don't stop taking it drug suddenly with out youre doctor's permission. you're dose may need to be gradually decreased.

Diltiazem HCL side effects: this drug may cause dizziness and lightheadedness especially during the first few days. Avoid activities requiring alertness. When you sit or lie down since while, get up slowly to allow your body to adjust & minimize dizziness. You may also experience bloating, heartburn, muscle cramps, headache, flushing, nasal congestion, sore throat, constipation, or diarrhea. Inform youre healthcare professional if they become bothersome. Notify you're doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, swelling of hands or feet, an irregular heartbeat. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.

Diltiazem HCL Precautions: Tell you're pharmacist your medical history, especially: heart disease, liver disease, lung disease, any allergies. Limit intake of alcohol while taking this med. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. this drug is excreted into breast milk. If there is no alternative to using this drug you should discontinue breast-feeding. Consult you're pharmacist before breast-feeding.

Diltiazem HCL drug interactions: Tell your physician about all prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially: cyclosporine, flecainide, beta-blockers (including eye drops), intravenous (IV) calcium, digoxin, lithium, disopyramide, hypertension medication, benzodiazepines (e.g., midazolam, triazolam), buspirone, lovastatin, quinidine, rifampin, carbamazepine, cimetidine, St John's wort. Avoid any drugs that increase youre heart-rate (the decongestants phenylephrine, pseudoephedrine & phenylpropanolamine are examples). These drugs are commonly found in over-the-counter cough-and-cold products. don't start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or physician approval.

Diltiazem HCL Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include dizziness, weakness, slowed or irregular heartbeat, nausea, drowsiness, confusion, & slurred speech.

Diltiazem HCL special notes: don't share this product with others.

If you missed Diltiazem HCL dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; don't take if this is almost clock for the following dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume you're usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

Diltiazem HCL Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight & moisture.
