    Nesiritide - injection

    (neh-seer-ih-tide)

    common brand names: Natrecor

    Natrecor Usage: Nesiritide is used for the short-term treatment of an acute form of congestive heart failure (acute decompensated congestive heart failure-ADCHF). It's only to be used for people who have trouble breathing while doing small amount or no activity.

    How to use Natrecor: Follow all instructions for proper mixing and dilution with correct IV fluids. If you have any questions regarding use of this drug, consult your pharmacist. Gently swirl or rock vial after adding the mixing liquid. do not shake vial. Doing so could make med ineffective. Give this medication by vein (IV) as 2 separate injections (bolus followed by infusion); or as directed by youre doctor. the dosage is based on your weight, medical condition, & response to therapy. After mixing the IV at dextrose or saline solution, take out correct amount of fluid to give as a single IV injection (bolus) over 1 minute. After giving the bolus dose, give remaining IV solution over recommended amount of time. Consult your pharmacist for details. don't mix it medication with any other injectable medicine. Use a separate IV line for giving another injectable drugs. your blood pressure should be monitored closely while using this medication. If you develop unusually hypotension, youre treatment may need to be stopped or your dose reduced. once symptoms of acute heart failure are controlled, your treatment will be changed to different medications. Before using, check it product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use liquid. Learn how to store & discard needles and medical supplies safely. Consult your healthcare professional.

    Natrecor side effects: Dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your healthcare professional promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: unusually fast or slow heartbeat, chest pain, back pain, stomach pain, vomiting, trouble sleeping, mental/mood changes. Tell some your physician immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fever, pain/swelling/redness of injection site, tingling or numbness of the hands/feet, severe cough or coughing up blood, rash, leg cramps, vision problems, unusual tiredness or weakness, sweating. Tell some your physician immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: change in amount of urine. An allergic reaction to it drug is unlikely, but seek immediate doctor attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or doctor.

    Natrecor Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, low blood pressure, any allergies. this drug isnot recommended for use if you have the next medical conditions: very LBP (systolic BP less then 90), shock due to poor heart function (cardiogenic shock), other serious heart conditions (e.g., valvular stenosis, constrictive pericarditis). To minimize dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from seated or lying position. Caution is advised when using this drug in elderly because they may be more sensitive to effects about the drug. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your doctor. Its not known if this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.

    Natrecor pill interactions: Tell you're physician of all prescription and nonprescription drug you may use, especially: other pills that may lower blood pressure (e.g., ACE inhibitors, beta- blockers, calcium channel blockers, diuretics, vasodilators). do not mix it drug with heparin, through IV lines that have had heparin in them (e.g., heparin flushes), or through IV lines containing other injectable drugs. Heparin or other IV pills, mixed together, could decrease effectiveness of it drug. Use separate IV line for heparin-containing solutions & other IV drugs, if needed. don't start or stop any medicine with out physician or pharmacist approval.

    Natrecor Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Natrecor special notes: do not share this drug with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor youre progress and for possible side effects.

    If you missed Natrecor dose: If dose is interrupted, contact physician to establish new dosing schedule/IV rate.

    Natrecor Storage: Store at room temperature between 56 & 86 degrees F (13 to 30 degrees C) or refrigerated between 36 & 46 degrees F (2 & 8 degrees C) away from light & moisture. once mixed in vial or the IV solution, it product is stable at room temperature or refrigerated for 24 hours. Discard any unused portion of vials.
