Tolbutamide Usage: it medication is used in the treatment of diabetes. Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, circulation problems, and blindness.
How to use Tolbutamide: May be taken with food or milk if stomach upset occurs. Take this medication at the same times each day in order to maintain constant blood level. Monitor blood glucose levels daily while taking this drug. it tablet must be used along with a proper diet & an exercise program.
Tolbutamide side effects: Headache, stomach upset, loss of appetite, nausea, diarrhea or vomiting may occur as youre body adjusts to the drug. Inform your doctor if you develop: itchy skin, dark urine, fever, sore throat, swelling of hands or feet, unusual bleeding or bruising. this medication can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). symptoms include chills, cold sweat, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache, fainting. If you experience these symptoms, eat a quick source about sugar such as table sugar, orange juice, honey, non-diet soda. Tell your doctor about the reaction. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat meals on a regular schedule & do not skip meals. Symptoms about high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, contact your physician. this medication can increase sensitivity to sunlight. in unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this tablet, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include rash, itching, swelling, dizziness or trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your pharmacist or pharmacist.
Tolbutamide Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially about: high blood pressure, liver or kidney disease, any allergies. Avoid alcohol while taking it medication. this can cause facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, dizziness or stomach pain. this medication may make you prone to sunburn. Wear protective clothing & sunscreen if needed. Caution is advised when using this drug at the elderly because they may be more sensitive to effects of the med. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant. Insulin therapy may be necessary during pregnancy. Certain oral antidiabetic pills are excreted in to breast milk. Consult youre pharmacist before breast-feeding.
Tolbutamide med interactions: Inform your pharmacist about all medicines you use (both prescription & nonprescription) especially if you using: 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine), beta-blockers (e.g., metoprolol, propranolol, timolol), certain 'water pills' (diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide), corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), glaucoma eye medicines, aspirin-like drugs, probenecid. do not start or stop any medicine with out doctor or pharmacist approval.
Tolbutamide Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact you're local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include shakiness, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, hunger, or sweating.
Tolbutamide special notes: do not share this medication with others. It's recommended you attend diabetes education program to understand diabetes & every important aspects of It's treatment including meals/diet, exercise, personal hygiene, drugs and getting regular eye, foot & medical exams. Consult your healthcare professional or physician. Keep every medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver and kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts) will be performed to monitor for side effects and response to therapy. Regularly money your blood or urine for sugar, as directed by some your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
If you missed Tolbutamide dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; don't take if it is almost time for the following dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.
Tolbutamide Storage: Store at room temperature away from moisture and sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
