Chloral Hydrate Usage: this medication is used as sleeping aid to improve sleep disturbances.
How to use Chloral Hydrate: this is best used 15 to 30 minutes before bedtime. If the suppository is too soft, refrigerate since 30 minutes or run under cold water before removing the foil wrap. Unwrap & moisten the suppository slightly with water. Lie down on your left side with the right knee bent (or the reverse if left handed). Push the suppository well into the rectum with your finger. Remain lying down for 2-3 minutes so medication gets absorbed properly.
Chloral Hydrate side effects: it medication causes drowsiness & dizziness. Avoid tasks requiring alertness. You may experience headache, stomach upset, dizziness or an unpleasant taste in the mouth during the 1st few days as your body adjusts to the tablet. If these effects persist or become bothersome, inform you're doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: confusion, nightmares, loss of coordination, fainting, breathing difficulties, skin rash, itching, yellowing of eyes or skin. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.
Chloral Hydrate Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have: heart problems, liver disease, kidney disease, allergies (especially drug allergies). Elderly persons usually more sensitive to the effects of this med. Use cautiously. this tablet is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your physician. for this medication may appear in breast milk, consult with you're pharmacist before breast-feeding.
Chloral Hydrate medication interactions: Tell your pharmacist of every prescription and nonprescription tablets you may use, especially of: 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), other sleep aids, drowsiness-causing antihistamines (e.g., diphenhydramine), narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, antidepressants, anti-anxiety drugs, anti-seizure medications, phenothiazines (e.g., chlorpromazine, prochlorperazine), other meds that make you drowsy. check labels on every youre medicines (e.g., cough-and- cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask you're pharmacist about safe use of those products. Limit alcohol consumption. If you diabetic, use TesTape or Clinistix to test your urine for sugar. do not use Clinitest because chloral hydrate may cause false results. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or physician approval.
Chloral Hydrate Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include decreased pupil size, slow or fast and shallow breathing, & vomiting.
Chloral Hydrate special notes: Use exactly as prescribed. do not increase you're dose or use this more many times than prescribed. Tolerance may develop to this medication making it less effective with prolonged use. do not stop using this medication with out you're doctor's approval. youre dose may have to be gradually decreased if you have been using it since some time. don't allow anyone else to use this drug.
If you missed Chloral Hydrate dose: If you miss dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Chloral Hydrate Storage: Store in room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) unless otherwise directed by the manufacturer. Keep away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
