Loperamide HCL Usage: this med is used to treat diarrhea or to reduce amount of discharge in patients who have undergone an ileostomy.
How to use Loperamide HCL: Take this pill by mouth exactly as directed. do not increase your dose or take it longer than directed with out your doctor's approval. in acute diarrhea this is usually taken for only 2 days. Treatment of chronic diarrhea may continue for up to 10 days. Notify your pharmacist if diarrhea does not stop after few days. While taking this medication, drink plenty of clear liquids to replace fluid loss from diarrhea and prevent dehydration.
Loperamide HCL side effects: Stomach ache, nausea, vomiting, bloating, constipation, dry mouth, drowsiness or dizziness may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, contact you're doctor promptly. To relieve dry mouth, suck on (sugarless) hard candy or ice chips, chew (sugarless) gum, drink water or use saliva substitute. Tell you're doctor immediately if you have this unlikely but serious side effect: stomach pain. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate healthcare professional attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.
Loperamide HCL Precautions: Tell you're doctor if you have: liver problems, ulcerative colitis, if you have recently taken antibiotics, allergies (especially tablet allergies). it drug may make you dizzy or drowsy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol intake because it can intensify the dizziness or drowsiness effects of this medication. Use this med cautiously in children. this tablet must be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with you're doctor. Its not known if this drug appears at breast milk. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.
Loperamide HCL drug interactions: Tell some your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription med you may take, including: cholestyramine. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Loperamide HCL Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, slowed breathing, drowsiness or deep sleep, & slow pulse.
Loperamide HCL special notes: this medication shouldn't be used longer then 2 days without notifying your pharmacist. do not treat children under six years about age without doctor's approval.
If you missed Loperamide HCL dose: Take each dose as directed. If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; don't take it if It's near time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume youre usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Loperamide HCL Storage: Store it medication at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 & 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in bathroom. Keep it and every drugs out of reach of child.
