Potassium iodide - oral

Sski Usage: Potassium iodide is used to prepare for thyroid surgery along with antithyroid medicine; to treat high thyroid levels; to protect the thyroid in a radiation emergency. this also has been used as an expectorant which may help loosen & break up mucous.
How to use Sski: it pill is usually taken after meals three to 4 times day. To administer, measure prescribed amount using dropper or special calibrated spoon. Place drug in full glass of water then stir & drink immediately. Follow with another glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water, unless your doctor directs you otherwise. Take this medication as prescribed. don't increase your dose or take it more much of times than directed.
Sski side effects: Acne, loss of appetite, or stomach upset may occur the first several days as you're body adjusts to the tablet. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify you're healthcare professional if you develop: fever, weakness, unusual tiredness, swelling in neck or throat, mouth sores, skin rash, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, irregular heartbeat, numbness or tingling about hands or feet, a metallic taste in the mouth. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact you're doctor or pharmacist.
Sski Precautions: Tell your physician if you have: pre-existing thyroid disease, lung disease, kidney disease, Addison's disease, tuberculosis, stomach disorders, skin disorders, any allergies. this pill is not recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this drug. since small amounts of it drug are found in breast milk, breast-feeding is not recommended while taking it medication. Consult your pharmacist.
Sski tablet interactions: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: pill for thyroid disease, potassium supplements, 'water pills' (diuretics), lithium. don't start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.
Sski Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include muscle weakness & irregular heartbeat.
Sski special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this medication. this will help to break up mucus & clear congestion.
If you missed Sski dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; don't take it if it is near the time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Sski Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in bathroom.
