    Hydrocodone - potassium guaiacolsulfonate - oral

    (poh-tass-ee-um gweye-uh-koll-sull-fun-ate w/hi-droh-koh-doan)

    common brand names: M-Clear, Prolex DH

    Simular Drugs : Protex, Protex D, Protexin

    Protex Usage: this combination of cough suppressant & expectorant is used to treat cough due to colds or flu. Also, phlegm (lung secretions) may become less thick after using this medication along with fluids.

    How to use Protex: Take this medication by mouth with full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water generally four times daily as needed, or as directed by your physician. If stomach upset occurs, this product may be taken with food. Drink plenty of fluids unless otherwise directed. Use this medication exactly as prescribed. do not increase some your dose, take it more frequently or use it for longer period of time than prescribed because this drug can be habit-forming. Also, if used for an extended period of time, do not suddenly stop using this medicine with-out your doctor's approval. When used since an extended period, this med may not work as well & may require different dosing. talk with your physician if this medication stops working well. Notify your physician if your condition does not improve at 7 days or if you develop high fever or persistent headache.

    Protex side effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, nausea, vomiting or constipation may occur. If these effects persist or worsen, notify your pharmacist. Unlikely but report promptly: unusually quick heartbeat, decreased amount of urine. An allergic reaction to this pill is unlikely, but seek immeditial medical attention if this occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other side effects not listed above, contact your physician or healthcare professional.

    Protex Precautions: Tell your physician your medical history, including: allergies (especially to codeine), lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), recent head injury. this pill may make you dizzy or drowsy. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Avoid alcoholic beverages. Caution is advised when using this tablet in the elderly, as they may be more sensitive to drug side effects. child may be more sensitive to the effects of this medicine. Use cautiously. this product should not be given to children under 3 years about age. it combination of drugs must be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your pharmacist. it is not known whether this combination about drugs passes into breast milk. Because of the potential risk to infant, breast-feeding while using it product isnot recommended. Consult you're doctor before breast-feeding.

    Protex drug interactions: Tell some your physician of all prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: cimetidine, naltrexone. Also report the use of drugs that cause drowsiness, such as: sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, anti-anxiety drugs, narcotic pain relievers (e.g., codeine), psychiatric medicines, anti-seizure drugs, muscle relaxants, antihistamines that cause drowsiness (e.g., diphenhydramine). money labels on all youre medicines (e.g., cough-and-cold products) because they may contain drowsiness-causing ingredients. Ask you're pharmacist about safe use about those products. do not start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or pharmacist approval.

    Protex Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact some your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include slowed breathing, drowsiness, deep sleep or loss of consciousness, cold & clammy skin, dry mouth, and slow pulse.

    Protex special notes: do not share this product with others. it medication has been prescribed for youre current condition only. don't use it later since another condition, unless told to do so by your doctor.

    If you missed Protex dose: When instructed to use this on regular schedule (not 'as needed'): if you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If It's near the time of the following dose, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.

    Protex Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture.
