Prostigmin Usage: this medication is a muscle stimulant used in the treatment of muscle diseases such as myasthenia gravis. Also used to counteract effects of certain muscle relaxant medications.
How to use Prostigmin: Take this drug by mouth as directed usually in multiple doses throughout the day & night. It's important to keep record of every doses taken and how you are feeling so adjustments can be made if necessary. Note any periods about fatigue or muscle weakness. do not increase some your dose or take it more many times than directed as serious side effects can occur.
Prostigmin side effects: Vision changes, stomach upset, flushing, flatulence, dizziness, drowsiness, muscle cramps, muscle twitching or increased urination may occur. These effects must subside as your body adjusts to medication. If they continue or become bothersome, inform your pharmacist. Notify your doctor if you develop: nausea, vomiting, severe stomach pains, diarrhea, sweating, increased salivation, irregular heartbeat, muscle weakness, difficulty speaking or swallowing, breathing difficulties. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
Prostigmin Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have history of: asthma, seizure disorder, heart disease, thyroid disorders, intestinal disorders, ulcers, urinary problems, allergies (especially allergy to bromides). Because this medication can cause dizziness or drowsiness, use caution engaging in activities that require alertness such as driving or using machinery. it medication must be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with youre pharmacist. it is not known if this medication appears in breast milk, consult your physician before breast-feeding.
Prostigmin drug interactions: Tell you're doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription med you use, especially of: antibiotics, other muscle stimulants, steroids, muscle relaxants, heart medications, magnesium. do not start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or pharmacist approval.
Prostigmin Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, excess saliva, blurred vision, & difficulty swallowing.
Prostigmin special notes: Inform your healthcare professional if you feel it medication isn't as effective as it once was. several patients may experience lack of sensitivity to medication which requires reduced dose or stopping therapy for period of time. Discuss this with your healthcare professional.
If you missed Prostigmin dose: for best results, it is important to take each dose as prescribed. However, if you miss a dose, take this as soon as remembered; don't take this if it is near time for the next dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Prostigmin Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in the bathroom.
