Glipizide Er Usage: Glipizide is an anti-diabetic drug (sulfonylurea-type) used along with a proper diet & exercise program to control high blood sugar. it is used in patients with type 2 diabetes (non-insulin-dependent diabetes). this works by stimulating the release about youre body's natural insulin. Effectively controlling high blood sugar helps prevent heart disease, strokes, kidney disease, blindness, & circulation problems, as well as sexual function problems (impotence).
How to use Glipizide Er: Swallow this medication whole. do not crush, chew or break pills. Take this med by mouth, usually once daily with breakfast; or use as directed by your physician. dosage is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. Use this drug regularly in order to get most benefit from this. To help you remember, use this at same clock each day. Monitor blood glucose levels on regular basis.
Glipizide Er side effects: Nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, diarrhea, constipation, upset stomach, gas, headache, & weight gain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify youre physician or pharmacist promptly. An empty tablet shell may appear in youre stool. this is harmless. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: persistent sore throat or fever, simple bleeding or bruising, stomach pain, yellowing eyes or skin, dark urine, unusual tiredness or weakness, unusual or sudden weight gain, mental/mood changes, swelling of the hands or feet, seizures. this medication can cause low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). this effect may occur if you do not consume enough calories (from food, juices, fruit, etc.). symptoms include chills, cold sweat, blurred vision, dizziness, drowsiness, shaking, rapid heart rate, weakness, headache, fainting, tingling about hands or feet, or hunger. this is a super habit to carry glucose tablets or gel to treat low blood sugar. If you are in a situation where you do not have these reliable forms of glucose, eat quick source of sugar such as table sugar, honey, or candy, or drink a glass of orange juice or non-diet soda to quickly raise your blood sugar level. Tell you're pharmacist immediately about reaction. To help prevent hypoglycemia, eat meals on regular schedule & don't skip meals. Symptoms of high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) include thirst, increased urination, confusion, drowsiness, flushing, rapid breathing, or fruity breath odor. If these symptoms occur, tell your doctor immediately. your medication dosage may need to be increased. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immeditial healthcare attention if this occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Glipizide Er Precautions: this medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using it medicine, consult your pharmacist or pharmacist if you have: metabolic conditions (e.g., diabetic ketoacidosis). Before using it medication, tell youre doctor or healthcare professional you're medical history, especially about: liver disease, kidney disease, thyroid disease, certain hormonal conditions (adrenal/pituitary insufficiency, SIADH-syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone), electrolyte imbalance (hyponatremia), hypertension, stomach/intestine problems (e.g., gastrointestinal stenosis or stricture, impaired emptying), any allergies. You may experience blurred vision, dizziness, or drowsiness due to extremely low or high blood sugar levels; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcohol while taking it drug because it can increase risk of developing hypoglycemia. rarely, alcohol can interact with glipizide & cause a serious reaction (disulfiram-like reaction) with symptoms such as facial flushing, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, or stomach pain. Consult your healthcare professional or pharmacist about safe use about alcohol. During times of stress, such as fever, infection, injury or surgery, it may be more difficult to control youre blood sugar. Consult youre physician, as a change in youre medication may be required. this med may make you more sensitive to the sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure, tanning booths or sunlamps. Use a sunscreen & wear protective clothing when outdoors. Caution is advised when using it med in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of drug, especially hypoglycemia. this med should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. It's not recommended for use since at least one month before delivery due to the potential since fetal harm. Insulin may be preferred during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with you're pharmacist. Based on guide from related drugs, it medication may pass in to breast milk. Therefore, breast-feeding while using this medication isnot recommended.
Glipizide Er drug interactions: Before using this drug, tell your pharmacist or pharmacist of all prescription & nonprescription products you may use, especially of: other diabetes drugs (e.g., insulin, metformin), aspirin or aspirin-like drugs (e.g., salicylates, NSAIDs such as ibuprofen, phenylbutazone), azole antifungals (e.g., fluconazole), beta-blockers -- including glaucoma eye drops (e.g., propranolol, timolol, metoprolol), birth control pills, 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem), chloramphenicol, cimetidine, clofibrate, corticosteroids (e.g., prednisone), decongestants (e.g., pseudoephedrine), diazoxide, diet tablets, epinephrine, estrogens, isoniazid, MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine), niacin, phenothiazines (e.g., promethazine), phenytoin, probenecid, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), rifampin, sulfonamides (e.g., sulfa antibiotics), thyroid pills, 'water pills' (diuretics such as hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide), fenugreek, ginseng. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or healthcare professional approval.
Glipizide Er Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include: shakiness, rapid heartbeat, sweating, loss of consciousness.
Glipizide Er special notes: do not share this tablet with others. Its recommended you attend a diabetes education program to better understand diabetes & all the important aspects of Its treatment including meals/diet, exercise, personal hygiene, tablets and getting regular eye, foot, & medical exams. Consult you're doctor or healthcare professional. Keep all medical appointments. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver & kidney function tests, fasting blood glucose, hemoglobin A1c, complete blood counts) will be performed to monitor since side effects & response to therapy. Regularly cash your blood or urine for sugar, as directed by your physician or doctor.
If you missed Glipizide Er dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's near the time of following dose, skip missed dose & resume you're usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Glipizide Er Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. do not store in bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children & pets.
