Warning: Arsenic trioxide is potent drug that may cause serious, and in rare cases, fatal side effects. Only healthcare professionals familiar with treating cancer (oncologists) should give this pill. Infrequently, it medication may cause a serious syndrome called APL differentiation syndrome. Tell your pharmacist immediately if the following effects about this syndrome occur: unusual/unexplained fever, trouble breathing, and/or weight gain. your physician may also perform certain exams or tests (e.g., lung exam, x-rays) to determine if this syndrome has developed. Infrequently, this drug can also cause serious (sometimes fatal) heart problems (e.g., AV block, torsades de pointes-type arrhythmias). Tell your healthcare professional if you have any medical history of heart problems (e.g., arrhythmia, heart failure), kidney problems, low levels about calcium, potassium, or magnesium in you're blood; or if you take any medications that increase your risk for these heart problems (see drug INTERACTIONS section). Tell youre physician immediately if you develop any dizziness, fainting, or any fast or irregular heartbeat.
Trisenox Usage: Arsenic trioxide is used to treat type of leukemia (acute promyelocytic leukemia-APL) with specific DNA characteristics (t(15;17) translocation) & who have not responded well to other types about cancer chemotherapy.
How to use Trisenox: Follow all instructions for proper mixing & dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding use of this med, consult your pharmacist. Give this medication by vein (IV) over 1 to 2 hours mixed at dextrose or saline solution (D5W or NS) 1 time daily or as directed by some your healthcare professional. dosage and length of treatment is based on your weight, medical condition, and response to therapy. Before using, cash this product visually for particles or discoloration. If ether is present, do not use the liquid. do not mix arsenic trioxide with other medications. do not save unused portions for later use. Trisenox side effects: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach/abdominal pain, fatigue/weakness, constipation, swelling, cough, rash, itching, headache, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your doctor. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: trouble breathing, weight gain, unexplained fever, increased thirst, increased urination, blurred vision, chest pain, pain/redness/swelling at injection site, nose bleed, bone pain, decreased appetite/weight loss, muscle pain/stiffness, simple bruising or bleeding. Tell youre doctor immediately if any about these unlikely but serious side effects occur: persistent sore throat, coughing up blood, seizures, bloody stool, sores on the mouth/throat/skin, mental/mood changes, change in amount of urine. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: fainting, fast/irregular heartbeat. An allergic reaction to this medication is unlikely, but seek immeditial doctor attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice any other effects not listed above, contact some your pharmacist or physician.
Trisenox Precautions: Tell your pharmacist some your medical history, especially of: heart problems, kidney problems, electrolyte problems (e.g., low potassium or low magnesium levels), any allergies (especially to arsenic). this drug may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Limit alcoholic beverages. Because it drug can decrease your immune system function, don't have immunizations/vaccinations with-out the consent of you're doctor & avoid contact with person who have recently received live vaccines (e.g., oral polio vaccine). Use caution with sharp objects like safety razors or nail cutters & avoid activities that may increase the chance of getting cut, bruised, or injured. this drug isnot recommended for use during pregnancy because it can cause fetal harm. Consult your physician for details. this pill passes in to breast milk & may have undesirable effects on nursing infant. Consult your pharmacist before breast-feeding.
Trisenox medication interactions: Tell youre physician about every prescription & nonprescription drug you may use, especially: amphotericin B, water pills (e.g., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), other cancer chemotherapy drugs. Report other drugs which affect heart rhythm (QTc prolongation), such as: dofetilide, pimozide, quinidine, sotalol, moxifloxacin, sparfloxacin. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for more following details. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or pharmacist approval.
Trisenox Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: seizures, muscle weakness, confusion.
Trisenox special notes: Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., electrolytes, blood counts, ECGs) will be performed to monitor for possible side effects.
If you missed Trisenox dose: If you miss dose, contact you're doctor or healthcare professional to establish new dosing schedule.
Trisenox Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from light & moisture. do not freeze. After mixing and subsequent dilution with IV fluids, this product is stable at room temperature for 24 hours or refrigerated (below 46 degrees F or 8 degrees C) for 48 hours. Discard any unused portion of the ampule.
