Somavert Usage: it drug is used for treatment of acromegaly if you have not had an adequate response to other treatments (e.g., surgery, radiation). Pegvisomant belongs to class of meds known as growth hormone receptor antagonists. this medicine is protein designed to reduce the action about people growth hormone (HGH). HGH increases production about additional chemicals (e.g., IGF-1) in body that thought to cause the symptoms associated with acromegaly. Pegvisomant helps decrease blood levels of IGF-1 & other related proteins.
How to use Somavert: Read manufacturer's patient instructions provided in package for information on how to properly prepare & inject this medicine. If any of this information is unclear, consult you're healthcare professional or pharmacist. don't shake the vial when preparing the tablet; gently roll this back & forth in your palms to dissolve powder. Before injecting this drug, visually inspect this for any particles or discoloration. liquid must be clear after mixing. If liquid is cloudy, discolored, or has any particles at this, do not use it. 1-st dose is usually given in doctor's office. You will be instructed by pharmacist how to give your injections at home after it. Be sure to ask any questions that you may have regarding pegvisomant use. Inject this drug under skin (subcutaneously) usually one time per day into upper arm, upper thigh, stomach region, or buttock as directed by your doctor. the maximum regular per day dose should not exceed 30 milligrams.Use this medication regularly in order to get the most benefit from it. Somavert side effects: Pain/redness/itching at the injection site, diarrhea, or nausea may occur. If any about these effects persist or worsen, notify your healthcare professional or pharmacist promptly. Tell youre physician immediately if any of the following serious side effects occur: signs about injection site infection (e.g., oozing, warmth, or persistent pain & redness), flu-like symptoms (e.g., chills, fever, muscle aches, weakness), swelling of the hands/feet/ankles, persistent headache, chest pain. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but very serious side effects occur: stomach pain, yellowing of eyes and skin, dark urine, fever, unusual fatigue. An allergic reaction to this medication is unlikely, but seek immediate healthcare professional attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Somavert Precautions: Before using this drug, tell you're pharmacist or physician your medical history, especially about: tumors/growths, diabetes, liver disease, regular or excessive alcohol use, any allergies (including latex). If you missed Somavert dose: If you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If it is near time about the following dose, skip missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Somavert Storage: Store unmixed pill in refrigerator between 36 & 46 degrees F (2-8 degrees C). do not freeze. Inject mixed bag immediately. If you are unable to use right away, the mixed drug may be kept at room temperature but should be used within 6 hours. After use, discard any unused portion left at the vial. Keep all medicines away from kid & pets.
