    Hydrochlorothiazide w/amiloride - oral

    (hi-dro-klor-oh-thigh-uh-zide with am-ill-or-ide)

    Warning: this medication can raise your body's potassium levels. it is more likely to occur in poeple with kidney problems, diabetes, in elderly patients, or if the patient is severely ill. Potassium levels should be closely monitored in people with any of these problems or illnesses. If not treated, high potassium levels can be fatal. If you develop any of the following symptoms, notify you're doctor immediately: muscle weakness, slow or irregular heartbeat.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz Usage: it combination med is diuretic or 'water pill'. this reduces the amount of water & sodium retained by body. it is used to lower blood pressure and to treat edema (fluid retention).

    How to use Amiloride Hcl Hctz: Take with food or milk to minimize stomach upset. Take it drug exactly as prescribed. do not skip doses, increase the dose or stop taking the drug with out your doctor's approval. Because this drug may increase urination, avoid taking a dose near bedtime. Try to take this at same time each day so you remember to take it.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz side effects: this drug may cause dizziness or vision changes. see for signs of dehydration such as dry mouth or thirst. this tablet may cause nausea, vomiting, change in appetite, headache or constipation first few days as your body adjusts to medication. Notify you're pharmacist if you develop: muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat, tingling about hands or feet, fatigue, difficulty urinating. it drug may increase sensitivity to sun. Avoid prolonged sun exposure. it may be necessary to wear protective clothing & sunscreen when outdoors. in the unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to it drug, seek healthcare professional attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz Precautions: Before you take it medication tell your doctor if you have: diabetes, kidney or liver disease, any drug allergies. Caution must be observed when eating large amounts of food high in potassium such as bananas, baked potatoes, cantaloupe, avocado, raisins, cooked spinach & other foods. Consult your physician or nutritionist. Alcoholic beverages may increase the effects of this pill, causing dizziness or lightheadedness. Limit alcohol intake. Use caution engaging at activities requiring alertness. Because this drug changes you're fluid balance, you may feel dizzy if you change from a lying to standing position too rapidly. Avoid this by sitting up few minutes before rising. If an illness causes severe vomiting or diarrhea, fluid balance at your body can be upset; contact your doctor. Unlike other diuretics, amiloride does not cause potassium loss from body. do not use salt substitutes with out youre doctor's permission. Caution is advised when using this medication in elderly because they may be more sensitive to the side effects about drug. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this medication. One about the components about this drug passes into breast milk. few physicians recommend avoiding the use of hydrochlorothiazide for the first month of breast-feeding because it may decrease milk output. Consult your pharmacist before nursing.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz drug interactions: this drug isn't recommended for use with: dofetilide. Ask your healthcare professional or pharmacist for more details. Tell some your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medications you are taking, especially of: captopril, digoxin, enalapril, lithium, potassium supplements, arthritis drugs, drugs since diabetes, hypertension meds. Tell your physician if you take: spironolactone, triamterene. do not start or stop any medicine with-out pharmacist or physician approval.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include fainting, muscle weakness, slow or shallow breathing, dizziness, confusion, unusually slow heartbeat, or seizures.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz special notes: it is important to continue taking it drug even if you do not experience symptoms about high blood pressure. do not allow anyone else to use it med.

    If you missed Amiloride Hcl Hctz dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; don't take if it is almost time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Amiloride Hcl Hctz Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
