Nitrofurantoin Usage: Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic used to treat urinary tract infections.
How to use Nitrofurantoin: this medication is best taken with food or milk. Swallow the capsules or meds whole for maximum effect. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by taking the med at evenly spaced intervals throughout day & night. Continue to take this drug until full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in relapse of infection.
Nitrofurantoin side effects: may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, loss about appetite, nausea, dizziness & headache during 1st several days as some your body adjusts to tablet. If these symptoms persist or become severe, inform your physician. may cause urine to turn yellow-brown in color. it isn't harmful & will disappear when pill is stopped. Inform your doctor if you develop: unusual weakness, tingling of the hands or feet, chills, muscle aches, cough, yellowing of eyes/skin. at unlikely series you have an allergic reaction to this med, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, fever, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact some your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
Nitrofurantoin Precautions: Before using this pill, tell youre doctor your medical history including: allergies (especially drug allergies), kidney disease, liver disease, lung disease, nerve disorder (peripheral neuropathy), anemia, diabetes, eye problems (optic neuritis). Use about this med for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). Avoid use of this drug in infants less than 1 month old. it pill should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with youre pharmacist. Avoid use at term (38 to 42 weeks about pregnancy) and during labor & delivery. this med passes into breast milk. Breast-feeding while using nitrofurantion is not recommended. Consult some your doctor.
Nitrofurantoin drug interactions: Inform your healthcare professional of all medicines you use (both prescription & nonprescription) especially of: probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin), magnesium trisilicate-containing antacids. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or pharmacist approval.
Nitrofurantoin Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include vomiting.
Nitrofurantoin special notes: it medication has been prescribed since youre current condition only. do not use this later for another infection or give it to someone else. different medication may be necessary in those cases.
If you missed Nitrofurantoin dose: Take missed dose as soon as remembered unless It's almost time since next dose. If it is almost clock for next dose, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.
Nitrofurantoin Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 to 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom.
