    Corticosteroids - oral

    Hydrocortisone Usage: this drug is corticosteroid. it reduces swelling. it is used for many conditions, among them: allergic reactions, skin diseases (psoriasis, hives), breathing problems; certain cancers, blood disorders, & eye problems; arthritis, digestive problems, and for hormone replacement.

    How to use Hydrocortisone: Take with food or immediately after meal to prevent stomach upset. Take this med as prescribed. Follow the dosing schedule carefully. Be sure to ask your pharmacist if you have any questions. If you taking this drug only once day, it should be taken in the morning before 9 a.m. liquid (suspension) form must be shaken well before each use. first use about suspension may require shaking for three to 7 minutes. After first use, no more then 30 seconds about shaking should be required to mix all ingredients well. If you have been taking it pill for long time, don't suddenly stop taking it with out your doctor's approval. youre dose may need to be gradually reduced. You may experience extreme fatigue, weakness, stomach upset or dizziness when med is suddenly stopped.

    Hydrocortisone side effects: may cause dizziness, nausea, indigestion, increased appetite, weight gain, weakness or sleep disturbances. These effects should disappear as your body adjusts to med. If they persist or become bothersome, inform your healthcare professional. Notify your doctor if you experience: vomiting of blood, black or tarry stools, puffing about the face, swelling of the ankles or feet, unusual weight gain, prolonged sore throat or fever, muscle weakness, breathing difficulties, mood changes, vision changes. in unlikely episode you have an allergic reaction to this drug, seek healthcare professional attention immediately. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or physician.

    Hydrocortisone Precautions: Before using this drug, tell you're healthcare professional your medical history, particularly if you have: liver or kidney disease, heart problems, intestinal problems, ulcers, HBP, an underactive thyroid gland, myasthenia gravis, herpes eye infection, history of tuberculosis (TB), seizures, blood clots, osteoporosis (brittle bones), eye problems, any allergies. do not have vaccination, other immunization or any skin test while you using this drug unless you're doctor specifically tells you that you may. If you have history about ulcers or take large doses of aspirin or other arthritis pill, limit your consumption about alcoholic beverages while taking it med. it may make youre stomach & intestines more susceptible to irritating effects of alcohol, aspirin, and certain arthritis medications, increasing your risk of ulcers. Report any injuries or signs of infection (fever, sore throat, pain during urination, and muscle aches) that occur during treatment and within 12 months after treatment with it pill. your dose may need to be adjusted or you may need to start taking drug again. If you have diabetes, this drug may increase your blood sugar level. check your blood (or urine) glucose level frequently, as directed by youre doctor. Promptly report any abnormal results as directed. your medicine, exercise plan, or diet may be adjusted. If the phlegm (sputum) you cough up when ill becomes thickened or changes color from clear white to yellow, green, or gray, contact your pharmacist; these changes may be signs of an infection. it drug should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare professional. it med passes at to breast milk. Consult your pharmacist before breast-feeding. it medication can cause growth suppression in infants & children if given for prolonged periods. Monitor growth velocity. Consult your doctor or pharmacist for more details.

    Hydrocortisone pill interactions: Before you take this drug, tell you're pharmacist of any over-the-counter or prescription medications you are taking especially: aspirin, arthritis medication, anticoagulants ('blood thinners'), diuretics ('water pills'), rifampin, phenobarbital, estrogen (e.g., birth control pills), phenytoin, ketoconazole, neostigmine, pyridostigmine, ambenonium, medications for diabetes. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

    Hydrocortisone Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include joint or muscle pain, purple patches on the skin, headache, increased thirst or urination, blurred vision, tiredness, stomach pain, or muscle weakness.

    Hydrocortisone special notes: Persons taking this drug for long-term therapy should wear or carry identification stating that they taking a corticosteroid. do not allow anyone else to take this medication.

    If you missed Hydrocortisone dose: If you taking daily dose & miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; however, do not take it if It's almost time for the following dose. If this almost clock for the next dose, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up. since all other dosing regimens: if you miss dose, contact your doctor or healthcare professional promptly. youre dosing schedule may need to be changed.

    Hydrocortisone Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. don't store in bathroom. don't freeze liquid forms of this medication. Certain liquid forms may require refrigeration. Consult you're pharmacist.
