Colace Usage: this drug helps fluids to mix with the stool to keep them from becoming hard or dry. Its used to treat constipation.
How to use Colace: Swallow capsules and meds whole with full glass about water or juice. liquid & syrup forms must be given in 6 to 8 ounces about milk or juice to prevent throat irritation. Relief is usually obtained in 1 to 3 days after first dose.
Colace side effects: this drug can cause stomach ache, cramping or irritated throat (liquid and syrup forms). If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your pharmacist. Notify your doctor if you experience: skin rash, rectal bleeding, lack of bowel movements. Frequent use of laxatives can cause dehydration & loss of essential nutrients. Symptoms include muscle cramps, muscle weakness or dizziness. Maintain an adequate fluid intake while using this drug. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact some your healthcare professional or doctor.
Colace Precautions: do not take aspirin (unless prescribed by you're doctor) or mineral oil while taking stool softeners. If you pregnant or breast-feeding, don't take over-the-counter stool softeners (or any other nonprescription medication) without obtaining your doctor's advice.
Colace drug interactions: this medication isn't recommended for use with mineral oil. Ask some your doctor or healthcare professional for more details. Tell your healthcare professional of every prescription and nonprescription medication you may use, especially aspirin.
Colace Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Colace special notes: Laxatives should only be used temporarily until normal bowel habits return. Prolonged use can lead to laxative dependence. To prevent constipation: drink 4 to 6 glasses of water daily, include bulk or roughage in your diet, & exercise regularly.
If you missed Colace dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost time for next dose, instead, skip the missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Colace Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight and moisture.
