    Electrolyte solution - oral

    (ih-leck-troh-lite solution)

    Ped Electrolyte Usage: this solution restores fluids and minerals lost to diarrhea or vomiting.

    How to use Ped Electrolyte: don't add water. solution is ready-to-use. the total amount to be given is determined by the severity about vomiting or diarrhea and the degree about dehydration. You may need to contact your pharmacist for the exact amount to be given and for how long. Generally one to two ounces per pound of body weight is given over a period of 2 to four hours in it manner: one teaspoonful every 10 to 15 minutes for 30 minutes; if this is tolerated, give one tablespoonful every 15 to 20 minutes followed by two tablespoonfuls all 30 minutes. If not tolerated or if diarrhea persists, contact the doctor. amount given each clock may be gradually increased until four to 6 ounces (120 to 180 ml) canbe given all 3 to 4 hours so that 1 to 2 quarts (1 to 2 liters) are taken per day while the diarrhea continues (adults may need more).

    Ped Electrolyte side effects: a common side effect that usually goes away during treatment is mild vomiting. If this continues, call doctor. Call doctor immediately if any of the following effects occur: convulsions or seizures, dizziness, rapid heart rate, increased blood pressure, irritability, muscle twitching, restlessness, weakness, swelling of feet or lower legs, puffy eyelids. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or healthcare professional.

    Ped Electrolyte Precautions: this solution must not be given when: there is an inability to drink (as in cases about shock), persistent vomiting is present, stool losses greater than 2 ounces per pound of body weight (100ml per kg) per hour--this is about two quarts (2 liters) per hour for 30 pound (14 kg) children, there is difficulty urinating, intestinal blockage is present. Call the physician immediately when signs about dehydration present. These include: severe thirst, doughy skin, sunken eyes. Avoid other electrolyte-containing foods or liquids, such as fruit juices or foods with added salt, until treatment with it medicine is completed. Breast-fed infants must be given breast milk between doses about the solution.

    Ped Electrolyte pill interactions: Tell some your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other pill (including nonprescription), such as: home remedies for diarrhea or vomiting. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or doctor approval.

    Ped Electrolyte Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Ped Electrolyte special notes: Call the healthcare professional if diarrhea continues past 2 days or if this should become worse during treatment. Soft foods such as rice cereal, bananas, cooked peas, cooked beans & potatoes should be eaten until the diarrhea stops & regular food and milk can be taken again.

    If you missed Ped Electrolyte dose: this solution is given on an as-needed basis. Follow the package directions.

    Ped Electrolyte Storage: Store un-opened container at room temperature away from light, heat or moisture. don't store in the bathroom. After using, replace the cap, refrigerate (do not freeze) & use within 48 hours. do not re-use the container.
