    Iron with ascorbic acid - oral tablets capsules

    (eye-urn with ask-or-bick acid)

    common brand names: Ferralet Plus, Polytinic, Tolfrinic

    Warning: Accidental overdose of iron-containing products is leading cause of death poisoning in children under 6 years about age. Keep this product out of reach of child. If an accidental overdose does occur, seek immeditial medical attention or call a poison control center.

    Iron & C Usage: Iron is an important mineral used by red blood cells to carry oxygen through body. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) improves the absorption of iron from the stomach. this med is used as dietary supplement to prevent or treat iron deficiency anemia.

    How to use Iron & C: this medication is usually taken once a day as directed. do not exceed recommended dosage. this tablet is best taken on an empty stomach, but may be taken with meals if stomach upset occurs. Take with full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of water unless your doctor directs you otherwise. don't lie down since 30 minutes after taking this drug.

    Iron & C side effects: most person can take this medication with minimal or no side effects. Stomach upset may occur. Stools may appear darker in color due to iron. do not be alarmed. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.

    Iron & C Precautions: don't take ferrous sulfate (iron) without consulting doctor if you have: ulcers, colitis, intestinal disease. this tablet should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with you're doctor. this drug is excreted in to breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Iron & C med interactions: Tell your pharmacist of every prescription & nonprescription drugs you may use, especially about: chloramphenicol, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, cimetidine, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin). Avoid taking iron in same time as antacids or tetracycline antibiotics. Wait at least two hours between taking iron & an antacid or tetracycline. Eggs & milk decrease iron absorption. Coffee & tea that is drunk with meal or 1 hour after meal may also decrease iron absorption. Because ferrous sulfate may cause false results in tests for blood in stools, tell pharmacist or laboratory personnel that you take ferrous sulfate. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.

    Iron & C Overdose: Accidental overdose about iron-containing goods is a leading cause of fatal poisoning in children under 6. If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.

    Iron & C special notes: some iron products contain vitamin C which is believed to increase iron absorption. their are many iron supplement products available. several can be purchased with out prescription. Consult your physician or pharmacist on choice of product best for you. it drug is not a substitute to proper diet. it is important to maintain well balanced diet. Foods rich in iron include beans, nuts, asparagus, oatmeal, red meat, dried peaches, and pork liver.

    If you missed Iron & C dose: Take the missed dose as soon as you remember; do not take if It's almost time since following dose. Instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Iron & C Storage: Store in room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture and sunlight. do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of the reach of kid.
