Bismuth subsalicylate - oral

Bismate Usage: this drug is used to treat indigestion, nausea, diarrhea; to relieve stomach cramps and to prevent traveler's diarrhea.
How to use Bismate: the liquid form of this tablet must be shaken well before pouring each dose. Chewable pills must be chewed thoroughly or dissolved in mouth. Non-chewable tablets & caplets must be swallowed whole with a glass about water. the dose may be repeated every 30 minutes to one hour as needed but no more than 8 doses should be taken at 24 hour period.
Bismate side effects: it med is generally well tolerated. Stools may appear gray-black in color while taking this medication. do not be alarmed. it will disappear when medication is stopped. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Bismate Precautions: Tell your healthcare professional if you have: other illnesses, allergies (especially tablet allergies). this drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your doctor. since small amounts of this medication found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Bismate med interactions: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: aspirin, blood thinners, tetracycline antibiotics, drugs for diabetes, drugs for gout. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or physician approval.
Bismate Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include ringing in ears, dizziness, confusion, and coma.
Bismate special notes: If condition for which this was prescribed does not improve after 2 days or becomes worse or if a fever is present, notify youre pharmacist.
If you missed Bismate dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; don't take it if it is near time for following dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.
Bismate Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. liquid may be stored in refrigerator to improve taste, but Its not necessary. do not store in the bathroom.
