Nicotrol Usage: this medication is used as an aid to stop smoking. It's most effective when used in conjunction with a stop smoking program.
How to use Nicotrol: patch should be applied to a clean, dry, non-hairy area on trunk or upper arm. dollars with manufacturer's patient instruction sheet for specific recommended areas about patch application. If necessary, video hair from site prior to applying the patch. Remove patch from package, peel off the protective strip and immediately apply this to site. Press firmly for 10 to 20 seconds to make sure patch stays in place. Be sure edges held firmly to the skin. Wash you're hands after applying the patch. Different brands about nicotine patches vary in length of time the patch is left on skin (e.g., since 24 hours or only while awake). Consult your doctor or healthcare professional regarding your specific patch & your condition (including cravings, vivid dreams etc.). Remove patch carefully & dispose of it properly. Apply each new patch to a different area to prevent skin irritation. don't suddenly stop using this medication without your doctors approval. your dose may need to be gradually decreased. You must stop smoking before using patches and continue not to smoke while using this med.
Nicotrol side effects: this medication can cause headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nausea or flushing 1st few days as youre body adjusts to the drug. If these symptoms persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor. If area around patch becomes red, itchy or irritated, try a new site. If irritation continues or becomes worse, notify you're doctor. Notify youre physician if you develop: breathing difficulties, chest pain, irregular heartbeat, nervousness, anxiety, tremors. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or pharmacist.
Nicotrol Precautions: Tell your healthcare professional you're medical history, especially of: heart disease, high blood pressure, insulin-dependent diabetes. this pill isn't recommended for use during pregnancy. Consult your physician for details. Nicotine passes into breast milk and has had undesirable effects on nursing infants. Consult your physician before breast-feeding.
Nicotrol medication interactions: Inform your doctor of all medicines you use (both prescription and nonprescription), especially of: insulin, beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol), propoxyphene, xanthines (e.g., theophylline). do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or doctor approval.
Nicotrol Overdose: If overdose is suspected, remove patch. Contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include: nausea, vomiting, excessive saliva, stomach pain, sweating, headache, dizziness, confusion, weakness, fainting, difficulty breathing, seizures, rapid/weak/ irregular heartbeat, blurred vision, diarrhea, hearing problems.
Nicotrol special notes: Keep this & every medications out of reach of child and away from pets. used patch should be discarded by folding it in half with sticky sides facing each other. the used patch should then be placed at opened pouch or aluminum foil & thrown in garbage. do not allow children access to the discarded patch.
If you missed Nicotrol dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as remembered; do not use if Its almost clock for next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. don't 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Nicotrol Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight & moisture.
