Antihistamines with decongestants - oral
Altafed Usage: Antihistamines provide relief of symptoms of allergies such as rash, hives, watery eyes, runny nose, itching eyes & sneezing. Decongestants relieve congestion, promote sinus draining and improve breathing.
How to use Altafed: May be taken with food or milk to prevent stomach upset. it is recommended to drink plenty of fluids while taking this drug, unless youre doctor instructs you otherwise. If symptoms don't improve after 7 days or accompanied by high fever, notify you're doctor. do not increase the dose or take it more frequently than recommended. the suspension dosage form must be shaken well before each use.
Altafed side effects: may cause drowsiness, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, stomach upset, blurred vision, restlessness, irritability & dry mouth & nose. These effects should subside as some your body adjusts to the medication. If they persist or become bothersome, inform youre doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: breathing difficulties, heart pounding, irregular heartbeat, chest pain, ringing in ears, difficulty urinating. may cause dizziness especially when rising quickly from a seated or lying position. Change positions slowly & be careful on stairs. Use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
Altafed Precautions: Tell your pharmacist your medical history, especially of: asthma, glaucoma, ulcers, difficulty urinating due to an enlarged prostate gland, heart disease, high blood pressure, seizures, an overactive thyroid gland, drug allergies. dollars this product's ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). the FDA has issued warnings regarding PPA side effects. Consult some your physician promptly if it contains PPA or if you uncertain this product has PPA. do not drink alcoholic beverages. it drug should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Consult some your pharmacist before breast-feeding. don't give this med to child younger then six years about age unless directed to do so by doctor.
Altafed drug interactions: Tell your healthcare professional what drugs you take, especially of: hypertension drugs, anti-seizure pills, antidepressants, sleeping pills, sedatives, tranquilizers, muscle relaxants, narcotic pain pill, another cold or allergy medication. don't take this drug if you have taken an MAO inhibitor (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine) within the last 2 weeks. don't start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Altafed Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose in children may include dizziness, nausea/vomiting, abnormal eye movements, flushed face, dry mouth, change in amount of urine, fever, excitation, agitation, unconsciousness, bizarre behavior, confusion, restlessness, irritability, delirium, twitching, tiredness, abnormal tongue movement, trembling extremities, slurred speech, or seizures. Symptoms about overdose in adults may include nausea/vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, or unconsciousness, which may be followed by excitement or seizures.
Altafed special notes: do not share this product with others.
If you missed Altafed dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if it is almost clock since next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Altafed Storage: Store at room temperature away from sunlight & moisture.
