Potassium iodide - oral

Pima Usage: Potassium iodide is used to prepare for thyroid surgery along with antithyroid medicine; to treat high thyroid levels; to protect thyroid in radiation emergency. this also has been used as an expectorant which may help loosen and break up mucous.

How to use Pima: this medication is usually taken after meals three to four times day. To administer, measure prescribed amount using a dropper or special calibrated spoon. Place the tablet at a full glass of water then stir & drink immediately. Follow with another glass (8 oz or 240 ml) about water, unless your healthcare professional directs you otherwise. Take this medication as prescribed. do not increase your dose or take it more often than directed.

Pima side effects: Acne, loss of appetite, or stomach upset may occur the 1st several days as youre body adjusts to medication. If any about these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify you're pharmacist if you develop: fever, weakness, unusual tiredness, swelling in neck or throat, mouth sores, skin rash, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, irregular heartbeat, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, metallic taste in the mouth. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your physician or doctor.

Pima Precautions: Tell you're doctor if you have: pre-existing thyroid disease, lung disease, kidney disease, Addison's disease, tuberculosis, stomach disorders, skin disorders, any allergies. this pill isnt recommended since use during pregnancy. Consult your doctor before using this drug. since small amounts of this drug are found in breast milk, breast-feeding isnt recommended while taking it medication. Consult youre doctor.

Pima drug interactions: Tell your physician about any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take including: med for thyroid disease, potassium supplements, 'water pills' (diuretics), lithium. do not start or stop any medicine without physician or physician approval.

Pima Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact youre local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include muscle weakness & irregular heartbeat.

Pima special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this drug. this will help to break up mucus & clear congestion.

If you missed Pima dose: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if It's near the time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume you're usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

Pima Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in the bathroom.
