Warning: Breathing problems (apnea) have occurred in infants with heart defects that were treated with alprostadil. Apnea is most often seen in infants who weigh less than 5 lbs (2kg). Apnea usually appears during first hour that drug is being given. Therefore, infants should be closely monitored in an appropriate setting during treatment with this drug.

Alprostadil Usage: it medication is used for temporary treatment about patent ductus arteriosus, a heart defect in infants, until surgery can be done.

How to use Alprostadil: this medication is infused in to a vein using a special pump. patient will be monitored closely by trained health care professionals while receiving this medication. Therapy will be evaluated continuously and the risks and benefits considered. Discuss them with healthcare professional.

Alprostadil side effects: Fever, irritability, stiffness, jitteriness, flushing, diarrhea, simple bruising or bleeding may occur. If any of these effects continue or become bothersome, inform the doctor. patient will be watched closely for seizures, rapid or slow heart rate & breathing trouble can occur while using this medication. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact you're pharmacist or pharmacist.

Alprostadil Precautions: this medication is for use in infants only. Tell doctor about: bleeding tendencies, breathing problems, any allergies.

Alprostadil drug interactions: Tell the doctor about any over-the-counter or prescription drug taken. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or physician approval.

Alprostadil Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include interrupted breathing (apnea), slow heartbeat, fever, low blood pressure, weakness, or flushing.

Alprostadil special notes: Laboratory tests & continuous monitoring will be done to determine drug effects & to prevent side effects.

If you missed Alprostadil dose: it medication is given on continuous basis. it is important that each dose be received as scheduled.

Alprostadil Storage: this medication is freshly prepared each day. Properly discard about any unused medication after 24 hours.
