Invanz Usage: Ertapenem is an antibiotic used to treat variety of severe bacterial infections (e.g., pneumonia, abdominal infections, skin infections, urinary tract/kidney infections).
How to use Invanz: Follow every directions for proper mixing and dilution with the correct IV fluids. If you have questions regarding use about this medication, consult some your pharmacist. Inject it pill in to a muscle (IM) or give by vein (IV) over 30 minutes in saline solution usually once per day, or as directed by your pharmacist. the dosage & length of treatment is based on your medical condition & response to therapy. don't mix this tablet in dextrose-containing solutions (e.g., D5W). If this drug is being given in to muscle (IM), follow all directions for mixing with an anesthetic solution (e.g., lidocaine 1%). Doing so may help relieve some of discomfort from IM injection. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in you're body is kept at a constant level. Therefore, take this medication at evenly spaced intervals. Continue to take this medication until full-prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after few days. Stopping drug too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow, which may result in relapse of the infection. Inform you're healthcare professional if your condition does not improve in 3 days. Before using, cash it product visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use liquid. Learn how to store & discard needles & medical supplies safely. Consult youre doctor.
Invanz side effects: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, constipation, & injection site reactions (e.g., pain, redness, swelling) may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your physician promptly. Tell your pharmacist immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: stomach pain, swelling, fever, dizziness, blurred vision, trouble sleeping, trouble breathing, mental/mood changes, irritation/itching of vagina. Tell your physician immediately if any of these highly unlikely but very serious side effects occur: seizures, unusually fast heartbeat, chest pain, unusual fatigue. An allergic reaction to this medication is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, dizziness, swelling, trouble breathing. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in secondary infection (e.g., oral or vaginal fungal infection). Contact you're doctor if you notice white patches at youre mouth, change in vaginal discharge or other new symptoms. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or doctor.
Invanz Precautions: Tell your pharmacist some your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, brain or seizure disorders, any allergies. Caution is advised when using this tablet in the elderly because they may be more sensitive to the effects of the drug. Tell your physician if you pregnant before using this drug. this med passes into breast milk and may have undesirable effects on nursing infant. Consult your healthcare professional before breast-feeding.
Invanz drug interactions: Tell your physician of all prescription & nonprescription medication you may use, especially: other antibiotics, probenecid, phenothiazines (e.g., chlorpromazine, thioridazine), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline, nortriptyline), theophylline, caffeine, sympathomimetics (e.g., amphetamine, methylphenidate), isoniazid, salicylates, tacrine, donepezil, morphine. this product can affect results of certain lab tests (e.g., liver function tests-LFT's). Make sure laboratory personnel & youre pharmacists know you use this medication. don't start or stop any medicine without healthcare professional or physician approval.
Invanz Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: severe nausea/vomiting/dizziness.
Invanz special notes: this drug has been prescribed for your current condition only. don't use it later for another infection unless told to do so by your doctor. a different tablet may be necessary in those cases. do not share this medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor some your progress.
If you missed Invanz dose: If you miss dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's near the time of next dose, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.
Invanz Storage: Store unmixed vials/powder at room temperature (77 degrees F or 25 degrees C). one time mixed, medication should be given (if IM) or further diluted in saline solution immediately after mixing. After mixing & subsequent dilution with IV fluids, this product is stable at room temperature for 6 hours, or refrigerated (between 36 & 46 degrees F or two & 8 degrees C) for 24 hours. do not freeze.
