Omeprazole Usage: it drug is proton pump inhibitor (PPI) used to treat various acid-related stomach and/or throat (esophagus) problems (e.g., acid reflux or GERD, ulcers, erosive esophagitis, or Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome). it works by blocking acid production in stomach. this medication may be used in combination with antibiotics (e.g., amoxicillin, clarithromycin) to treat certain types about ulcers.
How to use Omeprazole: Take this medication by mouth, usually 1 time daily, 15 to 30 minutes before a meal; or as directed by your healthcare professional. dosage & length about treatment is based on your medical condition and response to therapy. do not crush, break or chew the drug. Swallow the medication whole. If you have difficulty swallowing it drug whole, capsule may be opened & contents sprinkled onto cool applesauce and taken as directed. don't chew the food/medication mixture or prepare supply in advance; it may destroy drug and/or increase side effects. Drink glass of cool water after each dose to ensure complete swallowing about the med. Potent acid-reducing medicines such as omeprazole can decrease effectiveness of sucralfate, as well as other meds such as antifungals ketoconazole & itraconazole. If instructed to take any of these medications while taking omeprazole, consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the proper timing about each dose. for example, if you are instructed to take sucralfate in addition to omeprazole, it is best to take the omeprazole in least 30 minutes before your sucralfate. Antacids may be taken along with this drug, if needed. Use this medication regularly in order to get the majority of the benefit from it. Remember to use it at the same time each day. Continue to take this med for prescribed length about treatment even if you are feeling better.
Omeprazole side effects: Constipation, cough, dizziness or back pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify youre healthcare professional or pharmacist promptly. An allergic reaction to it drug is unlikely, but seek immediate healthcare professional attention if it occurs. Symptoms about an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact you're physician or physician.
Omeprazole Precautions: Before using it medication, tell some your doctor or pharmacist youre medical history, especially about: heartburn combined with lightheadedness or sweating or dizziness, chest pain or shoulder/jaw pain especially with shortness of breath, pain spreading to arms or neck or shoulders, unexplained weight loss, liver problems, other stomach problems (e.g., tumors), any allergies (including pill allergies). this med may make you dizzy; use caution engaging in activities requiring alertness such as driving or using machinery. Omeprazole drug interactions: Before using this drug, tell you're physician or pharmacist about all prescription & nonprescription products you may use, especially of: ampicillin, azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam), 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), cilostazol, cyclosporine, digoxin, disulfiram, iron supplements, phenytoin, sucralfate, voriconazole. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or pharmacist approval.
Omeprazole Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include: confusion, unusual sweating, blurred vision, unusually quick heartbeat.
Omeprazole special notes: do not share it medication with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests may be performed to monitor your progress.
If you missed Omeprazole dose: If you miss dose, use this as soon as you remember. If it is near the time of next dose, skip missed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double the dose to catch up.
Omeprazole Storage: Store at room temperature between 59-86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) away from light and moisture. don't store at the bathroom. Keep all medicines away from children and pets.
