Warning: I.V. fat emulsions must be used with extreme caution at premature or low birth weight infants. Fats have been reported to build up in there lungs & fatalities have occurred. These infants must be carefully monitored when using IV fat emulsions.
Intralipid Usage: Fats are used by the body as source of calories needed to provide the energy and nutrients for various bodily functions. it med is used in people who unable to eat properly.
How to use Intralipid: Allow all bags or bottles to warm to room temperature before using. this nutritional supplement is administered intravenously as directed by a certified health care professional. It's infused over predetermined time period stated on bottle.
Intralipid side effects: most common side effect of intravenous nutrition is infection or irritation of vein at the administration site (catheter). it must be reported to your healthcare professional. Also report: shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, headache, flushing, sweating, sleepiness. Notify you're healthcare professional immediately if you experience: itchy hives, sudden weight gain, fever, chills, yellowing of skin or eyes, darkening urine, bruising, stomach pain. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or healthcare professional.
Intralipid Precautions: Tell your doctor if you have any pre-existing conditions, such as: kidney disease, digestive disorders, another illness, any allergies. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with your pharmacist. it is not known if this medication is excreted into breast milk. Consult some your healthcare professional before breast-feeding.
Intralipid medication interactions: Tell your healthcare professional of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take. don't start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.
Intralipid Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Intralipid special notes: Make sure needles, tubing, & supplies are stored safely and disposed of properly. the special tubing supplied for fat emulsion must never contain filter. do not use any bottle in which separation of emulsion has occurred. check all expiration dates and keep every bags or bottles in proper sequence. Notify your doctor if you have allergies to eggs or soybean. your nutritional status will be closely monitored. Based on this your formula may need to be changed to accommodate your nutritional needs.
If you missed Intralipid dose: If you miss dose, take this as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near time for following dose, instead, skip missed dose & contact your doctor to establish new dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Intralipid Storage: Store unopened containers in room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat and light. Mixed fat emulsions should be refrigerated & used within 24 hours. Discard any unused medication after expiration date.
