Ferrous Fumarate Usage: Iron supplements used to treat or prevent low blood levels about iron (e.g., since anemia or during pregnancy).
How to use Ferrous Fumarate: it pill is best taken on an empty stomach one hour before or 2 hours after meals, with a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) about water. If iron upsets your stomach, take it with food or after meals, with a full glass of water. Sustained-release capsules and tablets should be swallowed whole. do not crush or chew them as side effects may be increased. Take tablets or capsules of iron with a full glass of water. do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking the tablet or capsule. the liquid forms should be diluted in a glass of water or juice & sipped through a straw to prevent staining of teeth. suspension forms must be shaken well before each use; take them along with full glass of water. don't exceed the recommended dosage.
Ferrous Fumarate side effects: can cause stomach cramps, constipation, heartburn, nausea, and vomiting first few days as your body adjusts to drug. Iron can cause stools to turn black in color. this is due to unabsorbed iron and is not harmful. Inform your pharmacist if you develop: severe stomach pains, chest pain, clammy skin, bluish-colored lips or fingernails. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or physician.
Ferrous Fumarate Precautions: do not take ferrous sulfate (iron) without consulting physician if you have: ulcers, colitis, intestinal disease. Eggs & milk decrease iron absorption. Coffee & tea that is drunk with meal or 1 hour after a meal may also decrease iron absorption. Accidental overdose of iron-containing products can be very dangerous, even fatal. Keep it medication out of the reach of kid. If overdose occurs, call a healthcare professional or poison control center immediately. this pill should be used during pregnancy or while breast-feeding only if recommended by you're doctor.
Ferrous Fumarate drug interactions: Tell your pharmacist about every prescription and nonprescription drugs you may use, especially of: chloramphenicol, penicillamine, methyldopa, levodopa, cimetidine, quinolone antibiotics (e.g., ciprofloxacin, norfloxacin). Avoid taking iron at same time as antacids or tetracycline antibiotics. Wait at least 2 hours between taking iron & an antacid or tetracycline. Because iron-containing goods can cause false results with certain tests that check for blood in the stools, tell the doctor or laboratory personnel you take iron. do not start or stop any medicine with-out healthcare professional or doctor approval.
Ferrous Fumarate Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include unconsciousness, paleness, weak-rapid heartbeat, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, or green diarrhea/tarry stools.
Ferrous Fumarate special notes: some iron goods contain vitamin C which is believed to increase iron absorption. there are many iron supplement products available. some can be purchased without prescription. Consult some your doctor or doctor on choice of product best for you. it medication isn't substitute to proper diet. It's important to maintain well balanced diet. Foods rich in iron include beans, nuts, asparagus, oatmeal, red meat, dried peaches, & pork liver.
If you missed Ferrous Fumarate dose: If you miss a dose, take as soon as remembered; do not take if It's almost clock since the next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.
Ferrous Fumarate Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in bathroom. do not freeze liquid forms of this medication. Keep out of reach of children.
