    Guaifenesin with dextromethorphan - oral

    (gweye-fen-eh-sin with dex-trow-meth-or-fan)

    common brand names: Benylin, Cheracol D, Naldecon DX, Robitussin-DM

    Genedotuss DM Usage: Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen mucus. Dextromethorphan is cough suppressant. this combination medication is used to treat cough associated with the common cold, allergies & other respiratory illnesses.

    How to use Genedotuss DM: Take this med as prescribed. Be sure to follow instructions closely. do not increase your dose or take it more often than directed. Capsules and long-acting pills must be swallowed whole with full glass of water. do not crush or chew them. the long action will be destroyed & chance of side effects will be increased.

    Genedotuss DM side effects: Headache, dizziness, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting may occur 1st several days as your body adjusts to medication. If any about these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop any of these effects while taking this medication: skin rash, trouble breathing. Use caution driving or operating machinery if this medication makes you feel dizzy. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact you're healthcare professional or physician.

    Genedotuss DM Precautions: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: lung disease (e.g., asthma, emphysema), any allergies. this med should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with some your healthcare professional. since small amounts of this medication found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

    Genedotuss DM med interactions: Tell your healthcare professional of any over-the-counter or prescription med you may take including: MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, phenelzine, selegiline, tranylcypromine). do not start or stop any medicine with out physician or pharmacist approval.

    Genedotuss DM Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, blurred vision, slowed breathing, & seizures.

    Genedotuss DM special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this med. it will help to break up mucus and clear congestion.

    If you missed Genedotuss DM dose: If you miss dose, take this as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near time for next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' dose to catch up.

    Genedotuss DM Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. do not store in the bathroom.
