Guaifenesin/dextromethorphan/decongestant - oral
Certuss D Usage: Guaifenesin is an expectorant which helps to loosen mucus. Dextromethorphan suppresses cough. Decongestants relieve nasal stuffiness. this combination drug is used to treat cough & relieve symptoms associated with the common cold, allergies, hay fever, sinusitis & other respiratory illnesses.
How to use Certuss D: this drug is best taken with a full glass of water after meal or snack. Swallow long acting tablets & capsules whole. do not crush or chew them because long action will be destroyed & chance of side effects will be increased. Take it med as prescribed. do not increase your dose or take this more often than directed.
Certuss D side effects: Mild dizziness, mild drowsiness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, dry mouth or nervousness may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, inform your doctor. Notify your pharmacist if you develop: chest pain, rapid pulse, skin rash, painful or difficult urination, tremors, extreme nervousness, trouble sleeping. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your healthcare professional or physician.
Certuss D Precautions: Tell your physician your medical history, especially: kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease, asthma, emphysema, high blood pressure, overactive thyroid, diabetes, glaucoma, prostate trouble, any drug allergies. check it product's ingredient list for phenylpropanolamine (PPA). the FDA has issued warnings regarding PPA side effects. Consult your doctor promptly if it contains PPA or if you are uncertain it product has PPA. this medication should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss risks & benefits with your healthcare professional. this medication may be excreted into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
Certuss D med interactions: Tell your doctor of every prescription and nonprescription medications you use, especially: drug for blood pressure, MAO inhibitors (e.g., phenelzine, furazolidone, moclobemide, linezolid, procarbazine, selegiline), sibutramine, narcotic pain medicines (e.g., codeine, morphine). Limit your intake about alcoholic beverages while taking it medication. do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or physician approval.
Certuss D Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact you're local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms of overdose may include nausea/vomiting, drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, loss about coordination, unusual movements of eyes, slow or shallow breathing, unconsciousness, slurred speech, change in behavior, convulsions, unusual slow or fast heartbeat, chest pain, increased thirst, fatigue, muscle weakness, headache, fever, chills, large pupils, anxiety, sweating, or tremors.
Certuss D special notes: Drink plenty of fluids, especially water while taking this med. it will help to break up mucus & clear congestion.
If you missed Certuss D dose: If you miss dose, take it as soon as remembered; don't take it if it is near the time since the next dose, instead, skip missed dose & resume your usual dosing schedule. do not double dose to catch up.
Certuss D Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 & 86 degrees F (15 to 30 degrees C) away from heat & light. don't store in the bathroom.
