    Methylphenidate - oral

    common brand names: Ritalin

    Warning: Methylphenidate should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients such as those with a history of alcohol or drug abuse. Such patients may be more likely to increase their doses unnecessarily. Abuse of it medication can lead to abnormal behavior. If methylphenidate must be stopped, it should be stopped gradually over time. don't suddenly stop it medication because severe depression or hidden overactivity may occur. in some person, long-term monitoring may be required after the med is stopped.

    Simular Drugs : Methylin, Methylin Er

    Methylin Usage: Methylphenidate increases mental alertness. It's used in those who have problems staying awake (narcolepsy) & for attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

    Methylin can be used also for: this drug may also be used for treating depression in certain cases.

    How to use Methylin: this medication is best taken 30 to 45 minutes before meal or take as directed by your physician. Dosage depends on your condition & response to this tablet. If loss about appetite occurs or if you experience stomach upset, it may be taken with or after meals or snack. Use this drug exactly as prescribed. do not increase your dose, use this more frequently or use it for a longer period about time than prescribed because this drug canbe habit-forming. Also, if used for long period about clock, don't suddenly stop using this without first consulting your healthcare professional. When used for extended periods, this medication may not work as well & may require different dosing. Consult you're doctor if medication isn't working well.

    Methylin side effects: Loss of appetite, blurred vision, dizziness, lightheadedness, headache, dry mouth, stomach upset, sleeplessness, irritability or constipation may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the drug. If these effects persist or worsen, inform your healthcare professional. Notify your doctor if you experience: weight loss, chest pain, nervousness, pounding heart, difficulty urinating, mood changes, yellowing eyes and skin. in unlikely event you have an allergic reaction to this medication, seek immediate medical attention. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or healthcare professional.

    Methylin Precautions: Tell youre healthcare professional you're medical history, especially: seizures or motor tics, Tourette's disorder, glaucoma, high blood pressure, severe anxiety, alcoholism, drug dependence, mental conditions, any allergies. If this drug makes you dizzy or lightheaded, use caution driving or engaging in activities requiring alertness. Methylphenidate should be used during pregnancy only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks & benefits with your healthcare professional. it isnot known if methylphenidate is excreted into breast milk. Consult your pharmacist before breast-feeding.

    Methylin drug interactions: Certain medications taken with this medication could result at serious, even fatal, drug interactions. Avoid taking MAO inhibitors (e.g., furazolidone, linezolid, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, selegiline, isocarboxazid, tranylcypromine) within two weeks before or after treatment with this medication. Consult some your pharmacist or physician since additional information. Before using this medication, tell your doctor of all nonprescription and prescription drugs you may use, especially: 'blood thinners' (e.g., warfarin), drugs for seizures, medicine for depression (tricyclics such as amitriptyline), high blood pressure medicine (e.g., guanethidine). don't start or stop any medicine with-out doctor or physician approval.

    Methylin Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately. Symptoms about overdose may include dilated pupils, vomiting, nervousness, twitching, tremors, flushing, sweating, severe or persistent headache, seizures, & loss about consciousness.

    Methylin special notes: don't allow anyone else to take this drug.

    If you missed Methylin dose: If you miss dose, take as soon as remembered & take any remaining doses at evenly spaced times. If It's near bedtime or near clock for following dose, skip that dose and resume your regular dosing schedule. do not 'double-up' the dose to catch up.

    Methylin Storage: Store at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (between 15 & 30 degrees C) away from moisture & sunlight. do not store in the bathroom.
