Lexiva Usage: Fosamprenavir is protease inhibitor type of antiviral medication. it is used at combination with other drugs to treat poeple immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV). one time in the body, fosamprenavir is converted in to amprenavir. the medication works by slowing the growth of virus. this drug isnt cure for HIV & does not prevent the passing about HIV to others.
How to use Lexiva: Take this medication by mouth, usually once or 2 times per day with or without food. Fosamprenavir is usually taken 1 time day in patients who have never taken protease inhibitors to treat HIV before. If you have taken another protease inhibitors in past, this medication should be taken twice day. If you are not sure if you have taken other protease inhibitors in past or if you have any questions about how many times to take this medication, check with your pharmacist or pharmacist promptly. Because fosamprenavir is converted by the body in to amprenavir, you shouldn't take this drug if you already taking amprenavir. Consult you're doctor or doctor for more details. If you take antacids or didanosine, take them at least one hour before or after taking fosamprenavir. Taking antacids or didanosine at same time as fosamprenavir decreases amount of amprenavir (active form of it drug) in your bloodstream. Use it medication regularly in order to get the majority of the benefit from this. To help you remember, use it at same times each day. do not take more or less of this medication than prescribed, or stop taking it (or another HIV medicines) unless directed to do so by your healthcare professional. Lexiva side effects: Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, headache, fatigue, & stomach/abdominal pain may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, notify your healthcare professional or pharmacist promptly. Tell your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur: skin rash. Tell some your physician immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: unusual increase at thirst or urination, mental/mood changes, numbness or tingling of hands or feet. Changes in body fat may occur while you are taking it medication (e.g., increased fat in the upper back & stomach areas, decreased fat in the arms and legs). cause & long-term effects of these changes are unknown. Discuss the risks & benefits of therapy with your healthcare professional, as well as possible role about exercise to reduce this side effect. serious allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immeditial healthcare attention if it occurs. Symptoms about a serious allergic reaction include: severe rash, itching, swelling, dizziness, trouble breathing. If you notice another effects not listed above, contact your physician or pharmacist.
Lexiva Precautions: Before using this medication, tell your pharmacist or physician your medical history, especially about: liver disease, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or fats (lipids), blood disorders (hemophilia), any allergies (especially to sulfa drugs). this med should be used only when clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks & benefits with youre physician. it is not known whether it medication passes in to breast milk. Avoid breast-feeding because breast milk can transmit HIV.
Lexiva tablet interactions: this medication must not be used with following medications because very serious interactions may occur: artemether-lumefantrine, astemizole, bepridil, cisapride, delavirdine, ergot drugs (e.g., dihydroergotamine, ergotamine), flecainide, midazolam, pimozide, propafenone, rifamycins (e.g., rifampin, rifabutin), certain 'statin' pills for cholesterol (lovastatin, simvastatin, atorvastatin), St John's wort, terfenadine, triazolam. If you are currently using any of these drugs, tell youre doctor or healthcare professional before starting fosamprenavir. Before using this tablet, tell your physician or physician of every prescription & nonprescription/herbal products you may use, especially of: other anti-HIV tablets (such as amprenavir, efavirenz, indinavir, lopinavir/ritonavir, nelfinavir, nevirapine, saquinavir), anti-anxiety drugs (e.g., alprazolam, diazepam), azole antifungals (e.g., ketoconazole, itraconazole), calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem, nifedipine, verapamil), dexamethasone, medications to treat erectile dysfunction (phosphodiesterase inhibitors such as sildenafil, vardenafil), erythromycin, meds that suppress the immune system (e.g., cyclosporine, tacrolimus, rapamycin), drugs for irregular heartbeat (e.g., amiodarone, IV lidocaine, quinidine), garlic supplements, methadone, anti-seizure drugs (e.g., carbamazepine, phenobarbital, phenytoin), tricyclic antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline), anti-ulcer medicines (e.g., H2 blockers such as ranitidine, cimetidine, PPIs such as omeprazole, lansoprazole), warfarin. this medication may decrease effectiveness of combination-type birth control pills. this can result in pregnancy. You should use an alternative form of reliable birth control while using it medication. Consult your healthcare professional or healthcare professional for details. do not start or stop any medicine without pharmacist or doctor approval.
Lexiva Overdose: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emergency room immediately.
Lexiva special notes: Patients treated with fosamprenavir may continue to acquire 'opportunistic' infections associated with HIV. this medication does not prevent transmission of HIV to others through sexual contact or blood. Practice 'safe sex' (including use of latex condoms) to minimize risk of transmitting the virus to others. do not share this drug with others. Laboratory and/or medical tests (e.g., liver function, triglycerides/cholesterol, white blood cell counts-WBC, blood sugar) should be performed periodically to monitor your progress or check for side effects. Consult your doctor for more details.
If you missed Lexiva dose: If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you remember. If It's within 2 hours of the next dose, skip the missed dose & resume youre usual dosing schedule. it is important not to miss doses of this medication.
Lexiva Storage: Store in room temperature at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C) away from light & moisture. Keep container tightly closed. Brief storage between 59 and 86 degrees F (15-30 degrees C) is permitted. do not store in bathroom. Keep all medicines away from kid and pets.
